Silky's Christmas by Margaret Arney is an inspirational story that the author presents in a unique way. The story, told through puppetry, reaches out to both children and adults alike and is inspirational. The story, set against a Christmas background, revolves around a Chook, a Silkworm, a Mulberry tree, an Oak tree and a large Dragon, all of whom lived in a glade in the heart of a beautiful forest. It's Christmas time and Silky makes Christmas gifts for everyone. As the story progresses, readers get to see how Silky's friends react to her Christmas gifts. The book captures the essence of giving gifts and Silky's rise to a better quality of life where she becomes a moth and flies around the glade.

The book has an excellent message for readers, and the spirit of Christmas - singing Christmas carols and giving gifts - is captured beautifully. The photographs are lovely and they make the scenes come alive and complement the author's thoughts and ideas with clarity. It's a good bedtime storybook for children and can also be used for read aloud sessions in school libraries and classrooms, especially during the Christmas season.

Christmas is a season of joy and giving, and the author manages to reach out to readers with that message through excellent storytelling in a very original way by using puppets. The information page at the end of the story is also educational, telling readers about a silkworm's life cycle and also Christmas. This is a novel way of reaching out to children using the art of puppetry and capturing the essence and spirit of the Christmas season beautifully.
