In Shattered Trust by J. Chris Richards, Officer Logan Taul is a power hungry, arrogant cop, determined to be shown the respect he thinks he deserves. One night as he is assaulting a "suspect", he catches a glimpse of himself in a window and what he sees appalls him. As he attempts to change his life, trying to become the cop and man that he started out to be, he discovers how difficult and dangerous being honest can be. J. Chris Richards takes us along for the ride as Logan sets out to make things right in both his professional career and his personal life. Standing up to other officers and finding himself the target of revenge puts Logan and those he cares about in danger. Logan is determined to change the direction of his life and adjust his own attitudes, but this will open up avenues of both joy and terror. Is the price too high? Should he just take the easy and safe way out?
J. Chris Richards' story of deceit, intrigue and trying to do the right thing is a suspenseful and action filled drama that is well worth the read. Logan endures rejection and brutality, false accusations and suspicions as he tries to change from the self described "monster" that he has become into the man that he wants to be. J. Chris Richards' characters are believable and sometimes frightening. As Logan attempts to become the man worthy of the respect that he has demanded by force in the past, we see the realistic view of what can go wrong when men obtain authority and power and then abuse and use it to their own gain. Shattered Trust by J. Chris Richards should be mandatory reading in every police academy. I enjoyed this book very much. It is well written and realistic.
