Between the gods and the other priests and priestesses, Lexie struggles to keep her position as Mambo. Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor use New Orleans as the tie between the dead and the living.

Seize by Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor is fascinating. It is book 3 but I did not feel lost even though I did not read the first two books. I really want to read them now, though. I should warn you there are some swear words and a few sex scenes. It also helps if you know a bit about voodoo and its history. Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor did an amazing job with world-building; they managed to make the swamp sound beautiful and terrifying at the same time. I have never been to New Orleans but I could picture the place quite easily. The ending was mind-blowing. I literally screamed "No!" because I didn’t want it to be the end. I love and hate endings like those. Now I have to wait till the next book (there better be one) to find out what happens, and I’m not a patient person. It’s like a cliffhanger of your favorite TV show. If you love stories about ghosts, demons, gods, and voodoo, then you're in for a real treat!

Seize is a spellbinding story, a tale that explores the theme of power and the irresistible lure of magic. The authors create characters that are complex and multidimensional and it is interesting how they evolve through the narrative. While Lexie’s secret is hidden from everyone, Magnus knows about it and he suffers a lot, worried about what can happen to her. The conflict is strong and it is developed at different levels. The tension builds up steadily, escalating to an explosive moment of difficult choices. Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor have crafted a novel that is tight in its plotting, fast in pace, and intriguing in its themes. The characters are memorable and elaborately developed. It was, for me, one of the best reads in the supernatural genre.
