Seize is a work of supernatural fiction penned by authors Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor, and forms the third book in the Magnus Blackwell series of novels. Lexie Arden has already been through a lot because of her supernatural gifts, not least being connected to the spirit of Magnus Blackwell because of them. In this new addition to the series, Lexie’s life is slowly coming apart at the seams because of the powers which Kalfu has bestowed upon her. Evil is growing, changing and hurting Lexie and those around her, and Magnus can see it happening. But when Lexie has the chance to be rid of Kalfu for good, it might be that the sacrifice proposed is too great a risk to take.

Combining voodoo, spirits, possession and magic into one cohesive plot is no easy feat, but authors Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor achieve an excellent balance and a plot which makes great sense in this novel. Seize is a relatively short read, made all the quicker by its excellent pacing, drama, action and intrigue. It also takes the time to delve deeper into the main character’s psyche and examine the damage that power, used for good or ill, can do to a person. Lexie’s struggle is well written, with effective dialogue and inner narration that endears us to her as readers. I also really enjoyed the developments in the cottage in the swamp, and the references to many horror-esque locations and atmospheres which give Seize its highly effective gothic, creepy vibe.

Seize (A Magnus Blackwell Novel, Book 3) by Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor is about a Mambo (a female priestess) and her ghost. Lexie Arden is a Mambo who is owned by two gods; one good, one evil. She lives in New Orleans with her husband, runs a bookstore and helps the police using her skills. Her ghost, Magnus, is like her guardian angel who does what he can to protect her. There are many priests and priestesses who want her Mambo position and will do anything to get it, even killing innocents. Between the gods and the other priests and priestesses, Lexie struggles to keep her position as Mambo. Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor use New Orleans as the tie between the dead and the living.

Seize by Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor is fascinating. It is book 3 but I did not feel lost even though I did not read the first two books. I really want to read them now, though. I should warn you there are some swear words and a few sex scenes. It also helps if you know a bit about voodoo and its history. Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor did an amazing job with world-building; they managed to make the swamp sound beautiful and terrifying at the same time. I have never been to New Orleans but I could picture the place quite easily. The ending was mind-blowing. I literally screamed "No!" because I didn’t want it to be the end. I love and hate endings like those. Now I have to wait till the next book (there better be one) to find out what happens, and I’m not a patient person. It’s like a cliffhanger of your favorite TV show. If you love stories about ghosts, demons, gods, and voodoo, then you're in for a real treat!

Seize is a Magnus Blackwell Novel and the third entry in the series by Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor, a supernatural story filled with realism and featuring interesting characters. Dark powers, voodoo, and shadow spirits are featured in a story that definitely sends chills down readers' spines. Lexie Arden’s life looks perfect from the outside — a loving husband and a thriving consultancy business with the New Orleans Police Department on murder cases. But Lexie has a very dark secret, one that is linked to her power and only one person knows about it; Magnus. But Kalfu's influence is about to destroy her life and everything she’s worked for. A rare inheritance brings her an even greater power, one that can help her reverse the grip of the Dark Lord and restore balance to the earth, but this power comes at a very high cost. Is Lexie willing to risk everything for it?

Seize is a spellbinding story, a tale that explores the theme of power and the irresistible lure of magic. The authors create characters that are complex and multidimensional and it is interesting how they evolve through the narrative. While Lexie’s secret is hidden from everyone, Magnus knows about it and he suffers a lot, worried about what can happen to her. The conflict is strong and it is developed at different levels. The tension builds up steadily, escalating to an explosive moment of difficult choices. Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor have crafted a novel that is tight in its plotting, fast in pace, and intriguing in its themes. The characters are memorable and elaborately developed. It was, for me, one of the best reads in the supernatural genre.
