Seb Cage Begins His Adventures by Terry Tumbler follows young Seb and his brother, Bart, as they go to stay with their grandparents, Terry and Sandra. Soon, Terry brings Seb in to investigate a part of the town with a secret connected to aliens. When Seb is invited to take part in a summer campus, they jump at the chance to investigate. As he bonds with the other students, Seb discovers abilities that he never knew he had. As danger escalates, he discovers his destiny is part of something bigger than he had ever imagined.
Terry Tumbler has an eye for detail, with precise language, and is amazingly organized, including an appendix at the end full of research. There are several delightful moments that take serious situations and spin a little humor into them. When the students end up finding prehistoric ants, Maisie shows no fear and casually explains that there's no hurry when the ants have obviously been dormant for a while. There are a lot of 'out there' ideas, but everything feels grounded and the characters are normal people with unique abilities. The characters are quirky, realistic, easy to bond with, and completely likable. The teenagers provide a lot of humor, including the names of their tutors - from the nickname Uppity to the teasing of Con Trick. A charming read that you won't want to miss! Seb Cage Begins His Adventures is a fun read, humorous and well organized with an intriguing plot and layered characters.
