It is best suited to the general adult reading audience and was penned by author Carol McMillan. This poignant and thought-provoking memoir takes its audience on a journey through a tumultuous period in American history. McMillan's memoir is a reflection on her coming of age in San Francisco during the late 1960s, a time of great social and political upheaval. The book follows the transformation of a sheltered suburban white girl as she immerses herself in the counterculture of the Summer of Love. Through vivid storytelling, McMillan paints a vivid picture of the era, complete with its music, its movements, and its challenges. Her journey doesn't stop in San Francisco; she takes readers on an entomology expedition across Africa, where she experiences a spiritual awakening that reshapes her worldview.
