In Scotland's Melody: A Regency Romance by Katie Stewart Stone, we meet Melody Foster who has no desire to marry the man of her father’s choosing. She has already made her choice. After an angry fight with her father, Melody runs away to London, to find Richard and start her life with him. She discovers that Richard isn’t the romantic young man who once worked at her father’s estate. He has rather nefarious plans for Melody and it’s all she can do to escape his evil pursuit, not once, but many times. After securing help from her former governess and then literally landing in a noble Scotsman’s carriage and receiving his help, Melody lands on her feet. Unfortunately, Richard is not far behind and it takes a whole lot of courage and clever manipulation to escape him once again and fall into the arms of someone much more suitable.
Katie Stewart Stone’s novel, Scotland’s Melody, is a sweet Regency romance, complete with lots of tension and breathtaking adventure. The main character, Melody, might appear a bit spoiled at first, but her courage speaks volumes as she demonstrates her willingness to lower her station, do menial work as a servant, and avoid detection from her predator, Richard. The descriptive narrative and compelling dialogue move this story forward at a good pace and the reader is instantly drawn into the tale with the heart-stopping opening scene where Melody makes her first attempt to escape Richard’s evil intentions. With all the talents of a well-brought-up lady of this era, Melody weaves a spell of her own that attracts the attention of a respectful young man. All Melody has to do is trust her heart again. A comfortable and enjoyable read.
