Schotsi: A Family Wilderness Dog Story is a work of fiction in the family saga, animals, and adventure subgenres. It is suitable for readers of all ages to enjoy and was penned by author Tracy D. Bright. Based on a lot of real events from the life of one family, and then extended to explore themes of parallel worlds and incredible adventures, this is the tale of a remarkable dog and the family it belongs to undertaking extreme survival in the Californian wilderness. In this first novel of a duology, we meet protagonist Trish in her early twenties when Schotsi comes into her life as she raises two young children. From here, the adventure turns into a poignant and heart-warming family saga.
Author Tracy D. Bright has much to offer readers who enjoy a heart-warming tale, especially those who want a little high-stakes adventure, survivalism, and a test of fortitude in their fiction. The work can easily be enjoyed by mature middle-grade and high-school readers, but there’s also something very nostalgic in its atmosphere and construction that will appeal to the young at heart. The celebration of the love of a dear pet is something many readers will find comforting, and the tale unravels like something of a modern-day Lassie as the incredible Schotsi takes center stage at so many key turning points for Trish and her family. As they forge ahead into a hopefully brighter future, I, for one, can’t wait to see what happens in the second half of the tale. Overall, I would recommend Schotsi for fans of outdoorsy adventure fiction filled with warmth, spirit, and realism.
