This is a book about southern black ladies that never allowed the words impossible or can’t be done to stand in their way. The path was not easy but each remarkable lady held fast in the storm and came out victorious. If we had more ladies with their gumption this would be a much better world.
Mathilda Beasley she dedicated her life to the welfare of children. Mrs. Esther Garrison advocated civil rights for all citizens. Mrs. Frenchye Mason Bynes was the first black female funeral director and Pamela Howard-Oglesby was the first black female embalmer. Constance Thomas was the first black female lawyer. There is a list of black females that were public servants and those in the medical profession.
The photos add much to this book. It is well written and researched. The authors have included poetry and a final thoughts chapter that is sure to challenge your women. I truly enjoyed reading about the remarkable women in this book.
