In Saturday Morning with Mobley by Dana Pegram and Kenneth Burton III, Mobley has a fun day planned, and he is super excited to start it. Then, his mom reminds him that he has chores to do. Mobley would rather go outside and play than do his chores. So he has to make a decision that all of us have to make on a daily basis. Should he play now and work later, or work now and play later? As the story progresses, Mobley realizes that his initial instinct may not have been the right one.
It’s a life lesson we all learn as children and even as adults. Sometimes we decide to go out and have fun, leaving that pile of work at home to do later. Then we come home and realize how much work we really have to do. Mobley and his story teach children that getting the work out of the way first will allow them to have even more fun. I think this is an important lesson we all have to learn. Plus, this book’s beautiful, vivid illustrations will catch any reader’s attention. I found myself admiring each page: I loved it. Dana Pegram and Kenneth Burton III have created relatable characters that kids will love. I can see Mobley going through life, learning lessons and teaching us along the way. I hope Saturday Morning with Mobley is the first of many books that we can read while following Mobley on his journey through life.
