Sarah is just starting the 5th grade. Right before the first day of school, Sarah has a visitor. A visitor only she can see and hear. An animal helper to guide her as her life changes. Soon after the animal visits her, she sees her first spirit. The spirit of the school bully's father. When she relays the spirit's message, the bully gets Sarah into trouble. At first, Sarah is afraid of her animal helper. Then, as she accepts her animal helper's guidance, she learns that her new abilities have a purpose - other than getting her into trouble and destroying her life, that is! Sarah's animal helper helps her learn how to stand up for herself and to understand and accept her new abilities.
Sarah's Gift: Standing Up For Yourself by Erica Tucci shows how being a psychic/medium can be lonely, confusing, and terrifying when misunderstood. Sarah's ability to see what others can't and to talk to those that are no longer corporeal is disconcerting to her. Especially when adults say that she can't see and hear ghosts, that they don't exist. It is also (apparently) uncommon to talk to animals. Or so adults say. But not to Sarah. Follow Sarah as she learns that her abilities can be more than just a problem, but a way to help others.
Sarah's Gift is a wonderful book aimed at helping young psychic/medium children accept their abilities and use them with love. I liked how the author integrated animal totems with psychism/mediumship. I feel that this book is must-read for parents of sensitive children, and will certainly help sensitive children as well. Being the parent of a psychic/medium child can be confusing and sometimes emotionally tumultuous.
Sarah's Gift can help the parent and child navigate such rocky waters by learning how to utilize their unique gifts and accepting help from the Other Side, so that they can come to terms with who they are and what their mission on this planet is. I loved that the back of the book includes a few activities and a link to free coloring pages. Sarah's Gift is more than just a book, it is a teaching tool. Although Sarah is in the 5th grade, I believe that this book would be useful for 6-12 year olds as it was written with the psychic/medium child in mind. The story is easy to read. The book was great!
