Award-winning author Kathryn Hills weaves a love story with a twist in Sand, Salt, and Spirits: Last Chance Beach Romance. The novel focuses on the sizzling relationship between colleagues Kyle Worthington, a medical sales rep, and Cassie Corwin, a medical researcher. Ever since Kyle laid eyes on Cassie, he was attracted to her. He wanted to date Cassie but she preferred her single life. Eventually, Kyle threw caution to the wind and audaciously asked Cassie to accompany him for a weekend away to his grandmother’s B&B for the Fall Festival. Cassie was shocked that Kyle would make such a bold proposition, considering they hadn't even been out on a date, and she turned him down. She was forced to reconsider his proposition when a pest infestation left her apartment uninhabitable. With no place to stay, Cassie decided to take Kyle up on his offer and spend the Halloween weekend with his family in Last Chance Beach. Will staying that close lead to Cassie and Kyle becoming more than colleagues?
The plot of Sand, Salt, and Spirits leans toward the whimsical and magical with large doses of family drama. Kathryn Hills creates a plot that highlights the importance of love over a solitary life. The Halloween theme is evident throughout with the presence of a ghost that amplifies the inherent spookiness of this festival. The author reinforces the sense of community evident in a small town like Last Chance Beach. Kyle’s character is depicted as the successful, handsome, rich guy with the proverbial silver spoon. Witnessing her parents’ tumultuous marriage has put Cassie off relationships and she is the epitome of an independent career woman. Kathryn Hills’s expertise as a writer is reflected in the scintillating conversations between the characters. This is a fun read with a ghost trying to play matchmaker.
