Sand Dune Daisy - A Pocket Mouse Tale by Lili DeBarbieri is a children's book about Daisy the pocket mouse. Daisy lives in the white desert and strays too far from home one day while gathering seeds, which she needs for water. Trying to find her way back from the dunes, she is stalked by a papa kit fox named Gypsum and is also noticed by a red tailed hawk searching for prey. Both the fox and the hawk need food for their families. Will Daisy make it back to her burrow unharmed?
Sand Dune Daisy - A Pocket Mouse Tale by Lili DeBarbieri is very educational for children. Included in the back of the book is a glossary of terms with which children may be unfamiliar. I liked the inclusion of fun facts along the way to help young readers better understand the surroundings and context of the story. Sand Dune Daisy is cutely illustrated and makes a great introduction to new animals and scenery that kids may not otherwise be exposed to. At 40 pages, Sand Dune Daisy - A Pocket Mouse Tale makes a nice-sized story for teachers to read to a class after lunch or recess to both entertain and educate them. This would also make a good book for homeschooling children. Kids like to learn about things that are different and Sand Dune Daisy fits the bill to engage them in something interesting and educational.
