Cornwall is where he first had the idea for Sam and The Sea Witch. A combination of where he was staying and reading about Sea Witches was the inspiration for this dark, mysterious, and psychological gripping tale about a fourteen year old boy who sails a stolen boat off the Cornish coast.
The boats exist and the places described in the book. Looe to Lamorna and inland to Caradon and the Parish of St Cleer.
All M. P. Ward's books are about children in fantastic, and sometimes, harrowing situations. I know you will enjoy them.
Some of the other books he has written include Sam and the Beast of Bodmin Moor, which is also available on Amazon and his latest release, Sam to the Ends of the Earth is now published by Lang Publishing and available in ebook, Paperback and Hardback. The Eternal Flame is now under contract for publication and he is currently writing a book about Microlight Aircraft. His stories are all filled with unique ideas and thought provoking story lines. The characters in his books are easy to relate to and there is a realism you don't find in most fantasy adventures. So sit back, turn the page and disapppear into his world.

Sam to the Ends of the Earth is the third book in The Sea Witch Series by Mike Ward, a wonderful meld of young adult fantasy and adventure. This is the story of a brave young girl, sixteen-year-old Jenny, who is upset by the sudden kidnapping of her best friend, Sam, by a powerful witch. She can’t find peace with Sam away and vows to do everything she can to rescue him. But where has the wicked witch taken him, and does she have what it takes to put up a good fight against one so powerful and merciless? As she begins her search, aided by Johnny, one of Sam’s closest friends, Jenny uncovers another deadly plan: the witch intends to destroy Cornwall. The challenges mount with each step she takes, and what complicates things even more is that Johnny is falling for her and she fears sharing the same feelings.
Mike Ward is a good storyteller and he has created characters that are real and that readers can relate to easily. Jenny is tough and still so genuinely flawed, which is a great element in her character development arc. Ward weaves a lot of suspense into the story, getting readers interested in finding out what might happen between Johnny and Jenny. I enjoyed the role Johnny plays in the story; he comes in to complicate things and raise the emotional impact of the story. Sam to the Ends of the Earth is a rare gem and I loved it the way I loved Stephenie Meyer’s writing, but there is more realism in this one than in Meyer’s. It is a delightful read.
