Sam Takes a Bagel by Peter Pickles is an adorable storybook for children. Sam is a cunning yet lovable cat. He loved to invent games and play, even if he is sometimes naughty. One day Mom left her bag with bagels in it by the door. The next day Sam was playing with the bagel, pushing it around the floor. He knew it was not right and ran away. Everyone laughed. This short story for kids also has a few jokes at the end of it which will put a smile on the faces of readers.
The story is delightful and the illustrations bring color and life to the characters and scenes. It's a good book for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries, and parents and grandparents can use it for bedtime storytelling. The story is simple and records Sam's daily activities, making it easy for young readers to comprehend and imagine. The author invites readers to mail him in case they want to know more about Sam. That is original and connects him with readers in a good way.
I enjoyed the story for its simplicity and the author reaches out and connects with readers in a fun way. It's a story that kids can relate to and Sam's behavior is playful and naughty. It's the perfect book to introduce to small kids when they first get into reading because it's simple, short and has lovely pictures to grab their attention.
