Sam Goes to the Beach is a simple story that would make a great read for young children. It could make a quick and easy bedtime story, and perhaps inspire a child's little mind to dream of a trip to the beach. Sheryl Tidlund has done a very nice job writing and illustrating Sam's awesome experience at the beach. The words and sentences are super easy for young readers, and the colors and playful feel of the book are enticing. Tidlund offers an opportunity for parents to share different experiences one might have at the beach, as well as what animal life might be encountered there.
Sam's mishap with the crab and his swimming along in his yellow rubber ducky float are likely to bring a smile and a giggle. At the same time, these aspects of the story help express to young children the importance of having a flotation device, as well as what might happen if they disturb a crab on the beach. The simple pictures leave room for imaginations to run wild instead of distracting the young reader with over stimulation.
Sheryl Tidlund's story, Sam goes to the Beach, is fun, playful, colorful and easy to read. She has created a beautiful little story that parents can expand upon in a variety of ways. There are many things to explore and try at the beach, and Tidlund does a nice job sharing those via Sam's beach excursion. Well done and adorable!
