Runaway Train is a romance by Simon Doyle. After coming out unexpectedly in front of his devout Christian mother, nineteen-year-old Denis Murphy finds himself without a home as his mother throws him out for being gay. Plagued with thoughts of his father, who committed suicide years ago, Denis finds himself aboard a luxury steam train heading from Dublin to Belfast. When the ticket inspector catches him without a ticket, the handsome son of a media mogul comes to his rescue. Twenty-four-year-old Oliver Lloyd is sick of his fame and wants some quiet space for himself. As Denis and Oliver spend time together, they discover an irresistible mutual attraction neither can deny. But can their differences allow them to be compatible? Will Denis be able to shed the baggage from his past and trust Oliver?

A charming romantic comedy that touches upon some relevant topics, Runaway Train is well worth spending your time reading. Simon Doyle tells an absorbing tale of two young men from contrasting backgrounds who find love amid the most unexpected circumstances. The characters are grounded and credible. Denis and Oliver have palpable chemistry, and each scene involving the two of them together is a joy to read. Their relationship is the prime focus of the narrative, with some side characters having issues of their own. The plot moves at a brisk pace, and Doyle's sublime prose makes it a breeze to go through. If you're looking for a well-written LGBTQ romantic comedy, this is the book for you.
