Rona loves a good story. When she was younger, she enjoyed listening to stories being read to her. As soon as she could read, she loved to curl up with a good book. Her favorite place away from home was the library where she could discover many more wonderful stories to read.
One day, Rona had the bright idea that maybe she should write a story. The only problem was, Rona didn’t know where to start. She thought she might like to write about herself, but after a writing a paragraph, Rona decided that her own life story wouldn’t be very interesting to read. She thought about her cat. She could write a story about her cat who disappeared, but, once again, after writing a paragraph, Rona decided it wasn’t a very good topic as there were already lots of good cat stories. Rona was stumped. Writer’s block at the very beginning of her writing career. Mom came to the rescue and gave her a first sentence to start her story. Rona wrote a wonderful story starting with her mom’s first sentence. Once she finished her story, she and her mom created a few more first sentences to share with other first-time young writers.
Bat-Oren’s picture book story, Rona Writes a Story, is a good inspirational story for young readers and young writers. It encourages young people to enjoy stories, to enjoy reading, and to be creative with their own writing adventures. The illustrations are cute and help carry the story along. With the suggested first lines at the end, along with blank pages to write your own story, this book should certainly encourage young readers to become young writers. A great story.
