Rogues and Rascals in Goose Pimple Junction by Amy Metz is a delightful murder mystery. Caldonia Culpepper is a southern woman living in a southern town. After being married twenty years, Caldonia Culpepper knew something was wrong. She is beginning to think that her husband, Philetus, is being unfaithful. Caldonia has devoted her life to her husband and children and is not sure how to proceed. She purchases an extraordinary dress and lingerie and tries to woo her husband, but this tactic fails dismally. Philetus is still ignoring her and his hostility has gone up a notch.
In the meantime, a rich juvenile delinquent is causing trouble in town and Caldonia catches him destroying school property. She calls the police and makes a complaint. The delinquent's father is the best lawyer in town and tries to persuade Caldonia to change her mind, but she refuses. After issuing a vague threat, he leaves her home in anger. Soon after, on a very rainy day, Miss Penny, the local dress store owner, is murdered on Caledonia's front step. Why would someone kill Miss Penny? Strange goings-on are happening in Goose Pimple Junction, with disappearing strangers, murders, and crooked lawyers. What's going to happen next? Santa stealing cars?
Rogues and Rascals in Goose Pimple Junction by Amy Metz is a delicious murder mystery that is an absolute delight to read. I absolutely adored Goose Pimple Junction and its inhabitants. I am looking forward to reading all of the Goose Pimple Junction books. The characters are endearing and I have fallen completely in love with them. The Mama-isms are a wonderful and charming addition to the book and I believe I will adopt a few of them. Reading this book is a pleasant experience and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys a nice, comfortable, down-home southern murder mystery.
