Rock On, Dr. Peanut by Alan Venable is a collection of stories about the adventures of Dr. Peanut, a peanutrician who lives in a world where peanuts and other creatures can talk. The story is written like a documentary that follows the lives of these talking peanuts. We learn that the community of peanuts has existed for a long time, and they have also evolved. They have a special language, 'p-phones,' and 'compeaters,' and can invent machines. The peanuts live in fear of the giants that could eat them. Hence, they dress up like it is Halloween whenever they leave their homes, but this changes when Dr. Peanut becomes friends with a couple of giants. The friendship introduces Dr. Peanut and his community to new possibilities and adventures.
Rock On, Dr. Peanut is one of the most creative and unique children's books I have ever read. The stories will take you on an unpredictable adventure. Every chapter presents a new tale, but they are connected and have a smooth flow. Alan Venable is a great storyteller who uses his imagination to create incredible plotlines and characters. I loved the fact that Dr. Peanut is a character who is curious and ready to learn new things. The story contains comical illustrations, which add a visual accompaniment to the plot. The characters are lovely, and Dr. Peanut's antics are fun and form the core of the stories which cover educational topics for children. I recommend parents and guardians get this book for their children as they will enjoy the story and learn something new at the same time.
