Rock of Ages (Tales of the East Book 3) by Faith Blum is a thriller of a story, revolving around one of King David’s minor-league sons, Chileab, who - despite having a crooked foot - plays the role of a prince trying to come to the hopeful rescue of an Israelite damsel in distress, Rina. Rina is originally an adolescent young girl who is kidnapped by two gruff men on account of her light hair and powers as a healer at a time when modern medicine lay 3,000 years in the future. With his crooked foot, there is no guarantee that Chileab can rescue Rina, and he and his friend Zaccai know that. Adding to the suspense is the fact that Racha and Hadc, the two men who kidnapped Rina, keep her chained up in a sunless tower and never let her out of their sight. So how is an enamored young man who cannot fight because of his foot handicap going to rescue her if he even can?
Rock of Ages (Tales of the East Book 3) by Faith Blum is a tension-drenched read for anyone, made more so by its fast pace and comparative brevity. The book takes place in Old Testament times, but is a delight for readers of all faiths or no faith, given its fast-paced plot filled with suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and readers will have a difficult time putting the book down because of the danger in which Chileab, Zaccai, and Rina are continually immersed, without letup, due to the economy of words in the novel. It is a story about how the Israelite people trusted in God, their Adonai, yet it will delight readers of traditional damsel-in-distress novels, whatever their religious beliefs. The story is so thrilling and compelling that any reader will thoroughly enjoy this novel.
