Ever since I first saw Robbie the Robot in the movies, I’ve been fascinated by robotics. In the 1950s and '60s, the cry was that robots would supplant human beings. In the 1970s and '80s, people were sure that as technology advanced, human staff would become more and more unnecessary.Robotic Process Automation Tools, Process Automation and Their Benefits by Srikanth Merianda is the book proving that everyone was right. Physical robots are touched on briefly, but the main thrust of this book is that using robotic process automation (RPA) is going to perform mundane and repetitive tasks more efficiently for longer hours per day, and with none of the expense and headaches that come with having a human staff doing these tasks. RPA can manage inventories, suppliers’ orders and invoices, payroll, and other data entry with no days off, no getting short-staffed due to long-term illness, and no entry mistakes due to human error.
The premise here is that once the human staff is freed from boring and repetitive tasks, they can perform sales, customer service, innovation, and other kinds of work that RPA can’t manage. Other savings would appear secondarily. A small business can rent less space while experiencing greater profit. A large business can retool more quickly and easily. For the small to medium-sized business, this book’s explanation of manual labor robotics and automation robotics can make a huge difference in productivity, customer service, accounting, and inventory management. This book does a great job of explaining all the aspects of switching from people to RPA.
The material in Robotic Process Automation Tools, Process Automation and Their Benefits is well organized, and I learned fascinating information about the technology of RPA. There are several attractive graphics that are strategically placed. The author, Srikanth Merianda, is an expert in this field. He is a business consultant who teaches companies how to streamline their processes and become more profitable. This book celebrates capitalism and the entrepreneurial spirit.
