Revising: It’s Time for a Change written by Terri Kelley is a great resource for learning what revision is. Terry targets a younger audience by using rhymes throughout her book. As an editor, I found myself nodding with every line I read. From the very beginning she explains what the revision process is like: making corrections suggested by teachers until there are no more red marks – in other words, our story, paper, report is perfect! Kelley does a great job of explaining this process to younger audiences so that they can understand.
Each page is also accompanied by illustrations. The illustrator is Milena Radeva. Radeva’s drawings are very original with characters that have long legs, big eyes, and spiky hair! I enjoyed the colorful pages and the different font changes. The book cover, along with the page illustrations and the rhymes make this book highly enjoyable to read. I think this book would be ideal for ESL students as well. The level is perfect for beginner or intermediate ESL students who are working on essays. My favorite revision tip is, “Adding more to the story is another revision tool. Making the story detailed can make it sound more cool.” I am a person in love with details so I always try to add more details in my stories. I want readers to feel as if they are right there in the story.
I also like how Kelley tells students that revisions are necessary for a great paper. She tells them that if they don’t make the revisions suggested, their stories will be a “fright”!
