In Revenge is Mine by Leila Kirkconnell, during his childhood, Sid never understood why he was beaten, starved, and neglected by his father. He soon discovered the painful truth on a camping trip with his father and from that day, he swore revenge on those who had made his life, and that of his mother, a misery. He waited and planned the perfect retribution, then as an adult, the moment arrived for him to strike. Meanwhile, Eva Creydall seems to have it all; a successful business, vast wealth, and a loyal attorney who worships her. When she meets a poor waiter, there is instant chemistry and attraction that she cannot explain, but she believes he is her soulmate. As Sid's revenge is going according to plan, he discovers there are a few unnecessary by-standers that have to be removed first. Step by step, Sid becomes closer to realizing his goal but, unknown to him, there is someone watching and waiting too. Will they be able to stop Sid before it is too late?

Revenge is Mine by Leila Kirkconnell is such a compelling plot but also very unique. Normally, there is a clear distinction between the protagonist and antagonist in a novel, but this was interestingly different. I found myself sympathizing with Sid and understanding his thought patterns but, at the same time, hoping someone would stop him. The author, I believe, has very astutely written the plot so the reader is made to use their own values and judgment to decide who is right or wrong. Eva was a lovely character, she wanted to love and to be loved, and it was this trait that made her ignorant of the cruel mind-control tactics used against her. Her treatment highlights the common behavior of someone who ignores their gut instinct and the advice of others because they do not want to admit they have poor judgment. Sid's abuse as a child was quite emotional and heartbreaking to read, and the revelations on the camping trip packed a powerful punch. Sid showed two different sides to his personality; a caring and protective side to Jack and then cold-heartedness to his victims. There were incredibly tense and suspense-filled moments throughout and the areas of conflict were perfectly executed. I did not see the ending coming; it was absolutely explosive.
