Emily lost everything when she ignored the evidence to exonerate an innocent teenager who was accused of aggravated rape of a minor. Moving to Reagan, New Hampshire she left everything behind and sought a fresh start. The last thing Emily expected after her move from Boston is finding a dead body on the beach. Seth, a meticulous man, had been getting away with murder for years. Rachel had been his friend since they were children, and her death awakened something in him that lay dormant for years. The first plane crash that claimed her life and three children was fishy, especially since only her husband, Dr. Brad Rivers, and one of their twin daughters survived. The second crash a few years later that claimed Brad's second wife and children, as well as the one surviving daughter, only solidified Seth’s beliefs that Rivers was responsible for both accidents. With the death of the last twin, he put into action a plan that would make everyone involved pay with their lives. Emily was just one part of this equation as she was, in Seth's eyes, the friend that failed to save Rachel. A series of deaths begin, and the small-town sheriff and coroner are beginning to believe they are connected in some way. Their theory leads them to a charter plane business that Brad and his friend and ex of Emily, Eric, owned. Seth finds out that the reason behind the deaths goes further than he could have imagined. Right to the hierarchy of the Catholic Church.
T.K. Walls has blown my mind with this murder mystery thriller. Retribution plays out like a Criminal Minds or CSI episode, causing you to remain on the edge of your seat in anticipation as to what will happen next. Seth is a unique character that I haven’t ever encountered before. A large portion of the story is from the point of view of this serial killer. We read and get a glimpse of how the sociopathic mind works. I found his character very fascinating and refreshing, knowing that it wasn’t just from Emily’s point of view, which I thought was the case when I first started reading. Not only is Seth’s character flawless but the storyline is so engaging and a new approach to a murder mystery. With each new twist and revelation, I found myself eager to continue reading. It’s definitely a great read for someone who is into crime stories, whether they are made up or true crime. I am looking forward to more works by T.K. Walls.
