Retirement Can Be Murder is a delightful mystery . This is the first book in a new series by author Susan Santangelo. Rarely have I read such a humorous mystery.
Carol’s husband Jim is considering retirement. She’s in a panic at the thought of him sitting in front of the TV 24/7. After a lively luncheon discussion with the girls Carol devises a plan. She believes she will need to make Jim think it is his own idea to see a Retirement Counselor. It was easy to do. Jim realized what she was up to but went along with it. On top of that their daughter has decided to move back home.
Dr. Davis Rhodes was not what they expected. He was baking chocolate chip cookies when they arrive for their appointment. The handsome man was immaculately dressed and wearing an apron. He quickly made a connection with Jim.
When Jim made a return visit to Rhodes he found the man dead. The chief suspect is none other than Jim. Carol isn’t about to let her husband be framed. She goes into her Carol Anders Super Sleuth mode to answer the question … Who killed Davis Rhodes and how?
I love this series and look forward to more books by this author. She even includes a recipe for Ice Cream Bread at the end of the book. The study questions are great and will make this a good book for a book club.
This is a witty book. Carol’s sense of humor is wonderful. She’s sarcastic, yet lovable. The plot is great. Don’t miss this series.
