Remote Work Technology: Keeping Your Small Business Thriving From Anywhere by Henry Kurkowski is a complete guidebook to working remotely. Although Kurkowski tailored his book to small or medium-sized businesses, he also addresses employees who are working from home. Kurkowski is well acquainted with technology, but he didn’t limit his book to technological matters. He writes about how company culture must change to deal with the new method of conducting work. Kurkowski based his book on university studies, surveys, case studies, and interviews with those who are using remote access apps to conduct their business. The potential audience includes entrepreneurs, managers, employees, and independent contractors. There is an extensive index, which will be of great help to readers needing information about a particular area.
I wish Remote Work Technology had been available when the pandemic started in March 2020 and I first used a remote access app. When spring break at my university started, I had never even heard of Zoom and by the time the break ended I had to conduct my classes using it. I suspect many others found themselves in similar situations. Author Henry Kurkowski writes “mistakes were plentiful” and truer words were never spoken. This book would have kept me from making some mistakes and anyone reading it today will be spared those same errors. The book is extremely well-researched. Kurkowski covers everything from setting up a home workplace to dealing with generational issues. I recommend this book to anyone who uses remote technology, whether they’re a host or a member of their organization who needs to sign into meetings. It will be of great help to them.
