Reflections of a Tomboy Grandma by Diane Perkins Castro is a great memoir of Christian life. It is full of wisdom. Well earned wisdom of life, and well learned lessons of Christianity. Every life is unique and has worth. That is just one of the lessons I learned as I read this powerful story. This memoir is a testament to all the unsung people that history will not remember, but who nevertheless lived good, interesting lives to the best of their ability. With all the billions of people in the world, it is sometimes difficult to realize our own self worth, or the worth of others we interact with every day. Maybe it would be a good idea for all of us to live our lives like we will one day write a memoir. It would be a powerful incentive to do our best, while at the same time remind us that we are important and we have a story to tell.

What I liked most about Reflections of a Tomboy Grandma is the “voice” of Diane Perkins Castro. It is an honest voice. It is a self deprecating voice with just the right touch of irony. Most of all, it just doesn't sound like the voice of a grandmother to me. It sounds like the voice of a wise woman that I would really like to get to know. It sounds like the voice of a compassionate woman who has studied and thought about her faith a lot. The writing is good. The story is interesting, and there is a lot to be learned from the life of Diane Perkins Castro.
