Navjyot comes to live with his grandfather when his father gets posted to South Africa. His cousin Nimi is already living with his grandfather. Navjyot and Nimi do not get along. Once Nimi's cat, Robber, finds an injured parrot in the garden and Navjyot nurses it back to life. The parrot has a special skill - it can understand human language. The story is colorful like its title, Rangeela, which means colorful in Hindi. Kids will connect well with Rangeela's story of how it was treated badly by the magician and finally how it managed to escape. Navjyot wants to help Rangeela go back to her birth-forest and it's heartwarming to see how the bird decides to stay with Navjyot. It's an excellent bedtime storybook and parents and grandparents can read it out to their kids and grandkids. It's also good for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries.
A bird bonding with a human is quite exciting to read and the friendship between Navjyot and Rangeela is the highlight of the story. Navjyot, Rangeela, Nimi, and her cat, Robber, will charm and delight young readers and they will be looking forward to the next book to learn more about the adventures of Rangeela. A delightful storybook for children.
