Rainbow Rock by Dan Jorgensen is an exciting mystery. Frank Silver Shore was caught up in the middle of an illegal drug deal and his friend Gene Darveaux was killed. Gene had hidden a big leather bag of money at Iya Wigmuke. Before Gene died, he gave Frank a wooden painted box to give to Deputy Marshall Twocrow in Hot Springs. In the box were the name and telephone number of the person who contacts him for driving jobs. Gene also asked Frank to tell Twocrow that Sarge was the one who shot him. Sarge Tollefson and his two buddies started a drug trade through their work with the Air Base pharmacy. They hired Gene as a driver and Gene was unaware of the drugs. Frank made his way to Hot Springs to give the box to Twocrow. Frank and Twocrow join forces to find the money and Gene’s killer.
Rainbow Rock has an amazing storyline that had me captivated from the first page. The plot is excellent and full of suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. One chapter was a follow-up to the next chapter. I was engaged until the very end and could not put it down. It was a real page-turner. Dan Jorgensen intertwined mystery and historical facts to write this excellent story. The information about the people of the Black Hills area and the history was very interesting. The Afterword section explains more about the events, people, and places. The story is well written and Dan was very creative in his writing style. The characters were unique and brought the surroundings to life. They were authentic and relatable. Some of the characters were based on real-life people from the Black Hills. This is an amazing story and worth reading.
