Rae’s Rainy Day is aimed at younger readers and was penned by Julie Awerkamp and Holly Andreason. It also contains gorgeous illustrations by Jesi Yap. The story follows the Sun itself named Rae, who is usually a very happy sun that loves shining brightly on the world below and bringing light and warmth to everyone’s day. But Rae is surprised when one day she wakes up feeling gloomy and not able to bring the sunshine that she usually does. Luckily, her new cloud friend named Gust is here to help her see that it’s not the end of the world to have a rainy day sometimes.

Rae’s Rainy Day is an upbeat children’s book about embracing the bad days and understanding that these are part of life. I particularly loved the message of the story that we all have bad days and that it’s okay to have them. The illustrations by artist Jesi Yap were very charming and really suited the story well. Author team Julie Awerkamp and Holly Andreason do a marvelous job of sending a deep and powerful message in a way that is accessible to children through their use of language and dialogue. The characters were well thought out, and I thought it was a nice touch that the sun and the clouds were the main characters. The conversations between Gust and Rae are delightful and engaging and added to the charm of the story. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to children who enjoy beautifully illustrated books and those wanting a moving and uplifting story.
