“Quests of Shadowind: Skyshifter” by L.A. Miller is a sci-fi fantasy book about two siblings, Logan and Mindy, who are dropped into a strange, yet oddly normal world along with the other kids in their neighborhood. They must all work together to find their parents and to return home. The situation is made more difficult by Kyle, the neighborhood bully, who is also along for the ride. With the help of computer programs, animals, and a mysterious man named Aimery, they work to escape the strange land. Will they ever find their way home? And will Kyle ever learn to be a team player? Read the book to find out!
This book drew me in with a mysterious beginning that did not explain how Logan and Mindy got to the strange place. In addition to the mystery, the beginning of the book starts with an explosive action series that engage the reader. The way the siblings fought throughout the first half of the book is a great touch and gave the characters room to develop. But after the initial rush of action, the book slows down a little and flits between characters, which takes the story away from the plot. Luckily, it picks up again and ends strong with a cliffhanging ending. The writing style is great for the type of book it is and didn’t distract me from the story. His entire book is very original and is a good choice for 12-15 year olds who enjoy science fiction and fantasy. Good book and I can’t wait for the next one!
