Puns Upon a Rhyme by author Kevin Lucas is a collection of 230 humorous limericks to tickle your fancy. This book begins with dedication and acknowledgment pages before jumping into the punny poems the author has written. Each page consists of two limericks on unrelated subjects with a fancy symbol acting as the clear division between them. Following the compilation of verses, the author has included a biographical summary of himself and a list of his other published works.
Kevin Lucas’s Puns Upon a Rhyme is an entertaining read that made me laugh at least a few dozen times. The verses have a great deal of rhyme but very little reason for them, which I felt was original and refreshing. The author consistently sticks to the traditional aabba rhyme scheme for a limerick and yet found a way to make each poem feel 'punny' and unique. The comprehension in Puns Upon a Rhyme can be tricky at times, due to the author splitting single phrases into multiple lines to conform to the prescribed rhyme scheme, but it didn’t detract too much from the overall reading experience.
Puns Upon a Rhyme is an entertaining and generally funny book that should appeal to anyone with a healthy sense of humor. I have no doubt this book will work its way into the hearts of its readers and enjoy its nice shiny day in the 'pun.' The best part is that fun puns are contagious and they may just infect you too.
