Pug with a Passport is a children’s book, written and illustrated by Marie Story. Kipling Pug has the travel bug and carefully explains the steps involved in taking a holiday, whether it be local or abroad. Whether getting his passport photo taken, going through the metal detector at the airport, sitting on the plane as it flies and then being greeted by his friend when he arrives at his destination, Kipling takes the reader on an incredible journey of adventure, adding that travel could mean anything from a bicycle to a ship. The excitement in reaching your destination can truly be as exciting as the holiday itself.
Marie Story’s wonderful tale of a young pug who is excited to be travelling for the very first time is a welcome breath of fresh air. Not only does Kipling Pug take all of the stress and anxiety of the unknown away from that of a first time traveler, but he does it with so much charisma and excitement that it is hard not to feel the thrill coursing through his veins while reading each page. For some, travelling to another country may be as simple as making your way across a border, but for others, lengthy plane rides are involved, and the biggest cause of worry for children is turbulence. As somebody who travels frequently between Australia and Finland, I remember quite clearly how terrified I was during the very first trip, but it soon becomes second nature, as you come to know what to expect, each and every step of the way. Pug with a Passport is an excellent travel reference which I thoroughly enjoyed, and recommend to young first-time travelers who are feeling the anxiety of leaving home for their first international holiday.
