Growing up in Kansas, Mark graduated from Sumner Academy of Arts and Sciences and received his Bachelor’s in Film from the University of Kansas.

In Mark Miller's Promise of Tomorrow, the Englische had for a long time warned of the impending apocalypse, but many were hesitant to believe until it was almost too late to leave. This was especially true for the Amish community who only believed in God's plan. At last it got to the point of 'go with the Englische or stay and die.' Therefore, in the middle of a deadly storm, Luke Umble gathered his family and, together with others, they boarded the Englische's transport. Luke had revealed nothing to his family about where they were headed so when they found themselves aboard a spaceship headed for an unknown destination, they were not pleased with him.
The ship mimicked Earth as much as possible, even with fields to farm, but still everything was in direct contradiction to the Amish faith. As hard as such a voyage would be on an average family, it was that much harder for the Amish. Here people had to depend on man and machine for survival, instead of relying on what God provided. That is how Luke found himself dealing with a difficult father, an ailing daughter, a son determined to find his own path, a curious eight-year-old loose on the ship, and tension in his marriage. But above his family issues, Luke learned some very troubling secrets about the welfare of the gigantic ship that they now called home. Only God knew what awaited them at their final destination - if they even made it there.
Promise of Tomorrow by Mark Miller is an insightful and emotional tale about the life of an Amish man forced to make a very difficult decision to save his family, and the family's challenging journey to the promised land. Although a work of fiction, Promise of Tomorrow gives an interesting insight into the Amish faith and the increasing challenges its followers face in this era of continued modernisation and technological advancement - especially the younger generation. Promise of Tomorrow is a great lesson in accepting change and reconciling the old ways with the new. It is also a lesson in unwavering faith and contentment in all the gifts and trials from God. The way Mark Miller captured the contrasting details between the Amish lifestyle and the new way of living brought the story to life vividly. If you are a fan of Amish fiction or just looking to get an insight into the life of its followers, you will find this sci-fi tale a worthy and thrilling read.
