I have a feeling that some time in the future events very similar to those that I just read about in Project Ancora will actually happen. I hope we are ready, morally, to handle the opportunities that science is going to give us. It is hard to see it now because we are sometimes very divided already. Adding genetically enhanced humans to the equation will only make it more confusing. But ready or not, the choice is coming. Maybe by reading books like Project Ancora by Allison Maruska will enable future citizens to make better choices. I hope that people will learn that human is human and that all have to be treated as humans and not as tools or weapons. This is the only thing that might save us from turning scientific advances into future disasters.
I liked Project Ancora. I love near future science fiction when the theme is clear and the questions are important. There is no question more important than whether or not we should tamper with our own genetics. What I liked most about Project Ancora is that although the teens and young adults involved are obviously intelligent, they are just as obviously human and need to be treated as such. Allison Maruska does a great job of showing us this. Project Ancora is the third book in a series called Project Renovatio. I did not read the first two books, but I highly recommend that you do. That way you can watch as Levin, Rana, Dante, and all the other kids grow and develop. The action is tense, the characters are real young adults, and the conclusion is satisfying.
