“Priscilla and the Splish-Splash Surprise,” written by Nathaniel Hobbie and illustrated by Jocelyn Hobbie, is a great story to listen to and is a great addition to every family’s library! The sky has not been blue for days and it is raining; Priscilla has tried to occupy herself inside, but she is bored of the rain and being inside. Priscilla goes outside to play in the rain and hopes to stop it by doing a dance. Instead Priscilla meets a Pixie named Posie from the land of Primrose. Posie introduces her to fun she can have in the rain and then enjoy spending time playing together. Priscilla learns to enjoy the rain, the rain that used to be a “dreary old bore,” and the days are now filled with sunshine.
This would be an excellent CD to pull out and listen to with your children on those rainy days when you are all stuck in the house and the children are bored. It not only teaches a great lesson about appreciating the rain, but also shows Priscilla making the best of a situation and finding something to do. This is a well-written story for children and I love the rhythm and flow of the story as it is written in rhyme. This held my daughter’s attention throughout and she was laughing, repeating lines and asking questions. It has a good length for young children. They are sure to love it as it is not too long and overwhelming with big words.
