Becoming an Empty Nester provided author Patricia Vicary with the perfect opportunity to focus on her health and fitness. Patricia also decided to embark on a master’s degree in liberal studies now that she had the time to focus on further education. Her goal was to complete a half marathon in each of the states as she approached the age of sixty. Reading Power Walk! is both interesting and educational and Patricia shares the many health benefits as well as techniques and numerous tips from clothing to shoes and taking care of your feet. Cross-training, physical therapy, and appropriate diets form an important part of this exercise regime. Like everything else in life, there is a cost involved and this is an important consideration.
Any person who thinks that power walking across America would be easy – think again. Author Patricia Vicary has done a fantastic job of highlighting the benefits of power walking as well as the many challenges. Apart from the educational aspect of Power Walk!, there is also a section of the various states, cities, and towns where Patricia walked and raced. Beautiful photographs, vivid descriptions, and stories filled with humor and the ups and downs of each race. Patricia is an inspiration to everyone; she deserves an award for her dedication and commitment to her health and authoring this book. Her experiences are well documented, and the book is expertly written. After reading Power Walk! I am encouraged to start walking and begin enjoying the benefits, as would any person who reads this motivational story.
