Potty Professional: The Secret Skills of Margo Pargo, Book 1 is a children’s picture book written by Melissa Sue Walker and illustrated by Winda Mulyasari. Margo Pargo has some extraordinary news to share with her friends -- she’s potty-trained! It all started when her grandmother suggested to Margo’s mom that she was old enough to begin using the potty. Margo’s mom was not at all enthusiastic. She insisted that Margo was still a baby. A BABY?? Margo couldn’t believe her ears. She was a big kid, not a baby. Look at all the big kid things she could do, like counting and eating gummy bears. So, Margo decided that she would show her mom and grandmother that she wasn’t a baby anymore. She was a big kid, and using the potty was easy.
Melissa Sue Walker’s Potty Professional deftly handles that crucial point in a child’s development when they make the transition from being a baby who gets their diaper changed to being a big kid who uses the potty. As Walker confirms in her note to parents that follow the story, not all kids progress at the same speed, but Margo Pargo’s story will have kids wondering if it isn’t time for them to put that space where the diaper-changing station sits in their bedroom to better use. Walker also includes a checklist for young readers to help them figure out what Big Kid things they already do. Winda Mulyasari’s illustrations are fabulous and make the enterprising young Margo come to life brilliantly. Each panel is colorful and fun to look at. A grand selection for storytime, this book is also written with new readers in mind. Potty Professional: The Secret Skills of Margo Pargo, Book 1 is most highly recommended.
