Porter is a penguin. Actually, he is a little boy penguin and he lives in Antarctica. Porter likes to do all of the things that little boy penguins like to do. He likes to play with his friends outdoors and he loves a good adventure. One day, he pulls a letter out of his mailbox that is addressed to Santa from James. The problem is Porter doesn't know who Santa is. He's never heard of Santa. And he certainly doesn't know anyone by the name of James. Porter feels compelled to find out who Santa is and to give him the letter that was meant for him. This leads Porter on an adventure because none of his friends have heard about Santa either.

Together with his friends they search the encyclopedia, they visit a wise old penguin on top of a big mountain, but nothing helps, especially since they fell asleep while listening to the wise old penguin's story that just happened to mention Santa. Frustrated, Porter finally asks his mother. That's when he learns about Santa and how Santa visits all of the children of the world on Christmas Eve, flying on a sleigh pulled by reindeer. No longer frustrated, Porter decides to continue on his mission to deliver Santa's letter. He decides, with Christmas coming soon, he must learn how to fly so that he can find Santa at the North Pole which is half a world away from where Porter lives near the South Pole.

Author Jonathan I. Gonzales has created a beautiful picture book story, a real treasure. There may be lots of books out there about Santa, but this book centers around a penguin from the opposite pole. It's a delightful little story about Santa, one that will warm the hearts of both children and adults. It is also an inspiring story that convinces young and old alike to never give up on a dream or a mission in life. If you believe, just about anything is possible, even for a young penguin to learn how to fly.
