Vansh Sharma is twelve years old and is currently in year 7 at Sydney Grammar. His love of poetry first started back in year 6 when his teacher Mr McCool introduced his class to different types of poetry. From there, Vansh began penning his own poetry and soon had enough to turn into a book. He aspires to become an established poet one day. Everyday objects, feelings, and phenomenon are constantly inspiring his poetry.

Poetry and Hot Chocolate is a mixture of fifty-eight rhyming and freestyle poems, all of them beautifully illustrated. The most impressive aspect of this work is that Vansh Sharma influences his readers so strongly they are guaranteed to use all five senses in turn, and sometimes all at once. The first offering is titled New York Pizza, and it doesn’t rely on the sketch to induce hunger pangs or fail to bite deeper into the poet’s feelings and thoughts as he enjoys it. Longing of Bliss shows the realization that basketball and popcorn aren’t at the heart of true happiness: it’s the friendship he shares. Poetry and Hot Chocolate by Vansh Sharma is a five-star collection of poetry.
Vansh Sharma is a schoolboy from Australia, so I did two things. Checked the age of youngsters in Year 9 – fifteen to sixteen, like my nephew – and prepared to be kind, or as generous as a reviewer can be and remain fair to potential readers. To say I was astounded is putting it mildly! The depth of understanding of so many subjects from the climb from unskilled to proficiency to his grandfather’s attitude to aging would put many adults to shame. Expressing it through poetry that had me utterly captivated is incredible. I chuckled aloud at one of the shortest entries, Benny’s Penny. Is writing verse a talent like playing music that strikes early or never? Perhaps, but Vansh Sharma’s Poetry and Hot Chocolate is a must-have book for poetry lovers worldwide.
