Pocky: An Octopus Learns Consent by Arielle Haughee is an educational picture book for young children Has your child learned the importance of consent yet? If not, then this book will teach them everything they need to know. Pocky the octopus loves to give hugs to all his fish friends. He squishes the krill and starfish and has a great time hanging with his friends. One day, a new fish arrives, and Pocky can't wait to give them a big squeeze hello, but something unexpected happens. The new fish rejects Pocky's hug and tells him he needs consent. This confuses Pocky, as he's never heard that word before let alone know what it means. Pocky navigates his way through learning the importance of consent, but will it be enough to gain the friendship of the new fish? Find out in this book.
Pocky: An Octopus Learns Consent was a pleasure to read. As soon as I read the title, I knew it was going to be a great book. I'm a sucker for educational books for kids, and this story teaches one of the most important lessons of all; consent. The author has explained this concept perfectly through a beautifully innocent story. It is the ideal starter book for teaching consent as it includes the basics of what they should know for their age. Not only does this book have a great storyline, but it also has adorable illustrations by the talented Eugene Smoleneva. I highly recommend this book to anyone with children. Keep up the great work, Arielle!
