Playtime Clothes is written by Kim MacLean and illustrated by Tia Bates. A young boy’s room is as messy as can be. His clothes are all over the floor, some of his socks are behind the drapes, and his toys are watching from all over his room. His mother goes into his room and wants an explanation for the disastrous state of the little boy’s things. He tells her stories about the toys wishing to be free and the shirts that don’t want to be folded because they need to be in their natural shape. Is what the little boy is saying true? Do his clothes and toys need to be free of their places in the dresser and the toy box? Will his mother believe his explanations? Will he have to clean his room again, or will his mother let him leave it as it is?
I had a lot of fun reading Playtime Clothes by Kim MacLean. The little boy trying to explain why his room was such a mess had me laughing out loud and thinking about the tall tales my own children told me in similar situations when they were younger. The imagination behind this story is as entertaining as it is hilarious. The illustrations by Tia Bates are adorable. They add a delightful layer of fun that matches the story. I recommend this story to children who are ready to read and who love a story that is comical, imaginative, and creative. This book definitely belongs in any children’s library.
