A washed up dentist, homeless and living on the edge of society, Dr. Blair Vaughn loves his drink more than he loved his previous life. So begins Pigeon Blood by author B.A. Braxton. The first book in the new Detective Rein Connery series, the story follows Dr. Vaughn after he witnesses a murder. Not just any murder, though, this is a double murder, and one of the victims is Dr. Cynthia Maxwell, the daughter of Blair’s former employer. He’d been in an alcoholic torpor when he saw the violent crime, but manages to put bits and pieces together and is determined to solve the crime. When he comes upon three perfect rubies, all the color of pigeon's blood, a rare red-blue, things become even more complex. Will Blair find redemption as he works to solve the murder of his old friend, or will his involvement lead to his ultimate demise?
I really enjoyed Pigeon Blood and feel that it is a very promising start to a new series. B.A. Braxton’s writing style is exciting and suspenseful, and the storyline will have you on the edge of your seat. This book will appeal to any reader who loves murder mysteries, action, suspense, books about seeking redemption, or those who just love good books in general. This was the first book that I’ve read by author B.A. Braxton, but it certainly won’t be the last. I am very much looking forward to the next installment in the Detective Rein Connery series, and I highly suggest you give it a chance!
