Treat yourselves to this inspiring true-life story of a self-made man who followed his passion and built a successful business centered around comfort foods to find fulfillment and contentment. Pieman, The Papa D Story by June V. Bourgo and Dennis Bourgo is an autobiographical memoir that recounts Dennis Bourgo's attempts to find meaning in his life by pursuing his dreams and overcoming the challenges to attain his goals. Growing up in the Okanagan, Dennis recalls the influence of his grandparents early in his life, who had come to Canada as indentured servants. It was his grandmother who nurtured a love for cooking in Dennis. In the late 80s, Dennis started his meat pie business in a rural area of the Sunshine Coast known as Roberts Creek. Follow his journey as he overcomes hurdles to chase his dreams.
Just like homemade meat pies, there is a personable quality to June V. Bourgo and Dennis Bourgo's writing that makes Pieman, The Papa D Story a joy to read. This is the story of a man who faced numerous challenges while pursuing his artistic and business endeavors but always kept himself grounded with the support of a loving family who were with him every step of the way. The book also contains photographs showcasing the momentous events from the various stages of Dennis's life. Autobiographies always provide a glimpse into the inner workings of a lifetime, and this one is no different. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Dennis's life journey, and if you're looking to motivate or inspire yourself, I highly recommend The Papa D Story.
