Pets Aplenty by Malcolm Welshman is the third in a series of stories following the escapades of Paul Mitchell, a novice vet. Paul works at Prospect House Veterinary Hospital and not a day passes when he doesn’t get into trouble of some sort. He tackles a hungry pig while he is sunbathing nude in the middle of a cornfield, forgets that there is a rather large python cooling off in the fridge, struggles over how best to administer an anesthetic to a tropical fish, and accidentally allows a crocodile to roam the church while people flee in all directions. His loyal, albeit long-suffering colleagues often get caught up in the mayhem with him, but it’s not all fun and frolics as Paul attempts to rekindle his affections for Lucy, the junior nurse. Will he succeed or will his comical crazy life get in the way of true happiness?
Pets Aplenty by Malcolm Welshman is hilarious. I love my animals and love to read books about them too, and this lived up to expectations in a big way. This is an excellent book for cheering up a cold dreary day and is highly entertaining; laugh out loud funny with just plain good old-fashioned humour. Welshman has done an amazing job with this book and even if you haven’t read the previous two (which I hadn’t), it doesn’t matter – this can easily be read as part of the series or on its own. I guarantee anyone who reads this will be in stitches laughing.
