Persistent Evil: The Demon Slayer by Diogenes A. Ruiz is Volume 2 of the Praying Mantis series. Monty was marked when he was born; he was never going to be the son his father wants him to be and tragedy is about to strike. Father Oliver can't seem to hold down a job at any church where he is assigned. He sees things and when he talks of them, people die. A stranger is in town and demands that Father Oliver baptize him. Oliver can’t refuse with a gun pointed at him, but he doesn’t realize he is about to be dragged into evil the likes of which he has never imagined. Can he fight against the evil that is infecting the Catholic church or will he fall foul of the devil himself?
Persistent Evil: The Demon Slayer (Praying Mantis Series Volume 2) by Diogenes A. Ruiz was a strange tale. Although it is the second in a series, starting where the first ended, it can be read alone. However, I feel that the first book probably should be read so this one makes more sense, so you get some of the background you need. It is a descriptive story, more in some places than others, and much of the detail is as realistic as it can be, given the nature of the story. That detail stands out as it guides you through the story and, although it is of the Christian fiction genre, the religious overtones are more undertones. It is a good story and the characters are reasonably well developed – perhaps the first book would shed more light? It does have plenty of twists and turns in it, lots of action and no small amount of suspense, and it does convey the message of keeping faith.
