In Persecution, the first book in the Dyphillum series by Elizabeth Montgomery, Cecily and Isaac are Dyphillum, half vampire, half witch hybrids. Graced with extraordinary powers, they are persecuted by their clan and are made to leave the only home they ever knew. Hunted by vicious demons, Isaac erases Cecily's memories in a bid to protect her and give her a better life, but despite their new identities they are still inextricably drawn to each other. Though Isaac swore on his life to protect her, in the end it may be him who really needs saving.
Persecution by Elizabeth Montgomery is a fast paced paranormal short story that starts the action right from the beginning and doesn't let up with the thrills and excitement all the way to the end. Since the story is so short, the paranormal elements aren't as fleshed out as they would be in a full novel. However, Montgomery gives the reader just enough information to hold together the action and tide the reader over until the next installment in her series.
Persecution is told from two points of view and the chapters alternate between Cecily and Isaac. Cecily initially has no idea who Isaac is, but feels a strong connection to him nonetheless as Isaac slowly comes to the realization that the best way to protect her may not be in wiping her memory and leaving her with no idea of her powers, defenseless against the bad guys that still manage to find her. Still, the romance overflows between the two and Persecution has just enough intrigue to have fans of anything paranormal devouring this book.
