If you believe good things come in small packages, then you’ll love this sweet story about Peck - A Little Lovebird in a Big Land by Remi Nicole. The first small package is the book itself: only 32 pages long; the second small package is Peck himself…just a little bird…giving us two good things in small packages that will capture children’s hearts.
Peck is searching for what everyone wants…love…but finding love isn’t always easy and sometimes it doesn’t come quickly. But Peck is determined. Because he’s so little and his tiny wings can only take him so far, so fast, he hitches a ride from Australia on Henry, an eagle. Henry takes Peck past Madagascar, all the way to Africa, where he leaves Peck safely with Zoltan Zebra to continue his search. As he travels, Peck realizes that having good friends like Henry and Zoltan is love. But his heart has room for so much more. Zoltan drops him off in the forest where a monkey named Marky helps him find other lovebirds like him. Will one of these adorable lovebirds give Peck the love he seeks? That’s what children will enjoy finding out.
Along the way, children will delight in the marvellous, full-page color illustrations by Mabel Chong. The depiction of the animals and the lovebirds, along with how and where they spend their time is magical, a true feast for the eyes. The story of Peck succeeds on all levels - lots of good things in a small entertaining package.
