Peace in the Sky: 75 Poems for Humanity by Michael Araza is a gentle series of poetic affirmations clearly intended to help the reader visualize a world at peace. Each of the seventy-five poems in the collection is written in a unique, comforting six-line configuration; as a result, the collection has a soothing, meditative feel which invites the reader to return many times to recapture a sense of tranquility and order.
One of the most appealing aspects of Peace in the Sky: 75 Poems for Humanity by Michael Araza is that the poems speak of a returning to a sense of peace that the reader has already known. So many poems are written about seeking peace and so few about restoring it - the notion in itself is hopeful and affirming. Many of Araza’s observations are offered as encouragements for the reader to get in touch with self in order to restore peace and inner harmony. From “Awakened Me”: My day is filled/With beautiful peace/I remember/To remember me.
These delicate six-line offerings are best read in quiet leisure. There is a placid, hypnotic effect inherent in the repeated six-line structure of the poems which can lull an unsuspecting reader into a kind of blissful stupor. Araza’s message is best digested in small bites, at a slow pace for maximum enjoyment. For those who seek respite from the cares of a fast-paced world and a sense of inner peace, Peace in the Sky: 75 Poems for Humanity by Michael Araza will provide a pleasant, restful, and contemplative interlude.
