Paradise High is a coming-of-age story about a group of friends on the cusp of adulthood. It is the debut novel of author William Henning, which follows a bunch of high school seniors as they navigate girls, alcohol, and wild parties as a sort of a last hurrah before entering adulthood. Told through the perspective of seventeen-year-old Billy, Paradise High takes you on a wild ride with Billy and his friends, Duce and Grouse and many more, as you join them on their rambunctious misadventures. When news of Duce Babyk's parents leaving the Babyk Manor for a trip reaches the ears of the group, they plan an all-time party. Meanwhile, Billy takes the night of the party as an opportunity to finally get intimate with his girlfriend.
Fans of movies such as American Pie or Van Wilder are in for a treat. Paradise High takes the reader back to the nostalgic years of one's high school where having carefree fun seemed like an utmost priority. Rowdy and rip-roaringly funny, Paradise High is a blast to read from start to finish. Filled with dialogue that is dripping with dark humor, not a page goes by where you don't let out a chuckle or two. The characters are funny and colorful, with distinct personalities and quirks that make them easily relatable to the reader. Overall, I found Paradise High to be thoroughly entertaining. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy coming-of-age stories told in an unrestrained fashion that is equally outrageous and hilarious.
